Place the peas and onion in a saucepan, cover with water and bring to the boil.

Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until the peas can be squashed with the back of a spoon. Drain the mixture and then mash the peas with a fork Add the milk then reheat, stirring for 2-5 minutes.

If you like your peas thicker, continue to heat and stir until the desired consistency is achieved.
