French Bread Pizza

French Bread Pizza

During the holiday season, people seek nice recipes for desserts, fancy entrees, elegant soups and appetizers for New Year Eve.  In this age of instant gratification, it is all too easy to go to the corner store and pick up some junk food, like chips & dip or frozen pizza snacks.  Convenience does have its draw backs.  Food manufacturers add a long list of chemicals and modified food products to items that have a long shelf life.  Nothing is gained by not making the snack food oneself.

French Bread Pizza

In the 1970’s, pizza bread became a popular appetizer.  Most people just put standard pizza toppings on their home made French Bread Pizza.  In recent years, a public trend of demanding quality and value has been taking place.  Part of the higher food quality demand is for using higher quality ingredients or gourmet ingredients in recipes, as well as perfection cooking techniques.

French Bread Pizza

Pizza bread can be much more than a snack made with cheap low quality pizza toppings that are purchased at a grocery store.  If traditional Italian flavors are what is sought, then go to an Italian deli to purchase the ingredients.  If a gourmet pizza bread creation is the goal, then be selective about the ingredients and keep a theme for the entree in mind.

French Bread Pizza

Gourmet pizza bread?  Why not!  I have posted a few gourmet pizza bread recipe ideas in the past.  Bringing new life to an old popular snack food of the past can be done by making a pizza bread that appeals to guests in a big way.  Since dairy product tolerant vegetarian food options are at an all time high and the natural food consciousness has finally overcome trusting GMO tomatoes, pizza bread is the perfect medium for showing off naturally delicious heirloom tomatoes.

French Bread Pizza

Why heirloom tomatoes?  Heirloom tomatoes are vine ripe, they are usually grown organically and they are non GMO.  Heirloom tomatoes are not picked green and stored in a neutral atmosphere, then gassed for quick ripening, like most commercial tomatoes.  Commercial tomatoes have quality issues and the flavor is not that great.  Heirloom tomatoes taste like the good old fashioned local grown summertime tomatoes from days gone by.
